Protecting Plants in Your Landscape

Temps in Memphis, TN across the Mid-South are on track to hit record lows over the next few days. If you have plants in your landscape that are only hardy down to Zone 7 or 6, these ultra-low temps could affect them.

To protect plants that are only hardy down to our zone (Zone 7), cover them during the coldest hours with cloth materials such as fleece blankets, burlap bags, cotton sheets, frost blankets, etc. Avoid plastic materials like tarps, garbage bags, etc., as they don’t breathe well and can cause more harm to your plants when the sun directly hits the plastic material.
